As a leading remodeling company in Portland, the professionals at Miller Home Renovations have seen every type of shower imaginable—the good, the bad, and the ugly. We’ve helped countless homeowners transform their bathrooms with the installation of a new or replacement shower. We understand what a significant investment bathroom remodeling can be, and we’re committed to providing our customers with the best value possible.

Whether you’re just now installing a new shower or you’re looking to give life back to an old one, how you clean it matters. Check out our tips below for a pristine shower.

Gather Supplies and Empty Your Shower

You’ll need a non-abrasive cleaning solution, soft sponge, microfiber towel, and a squeegee if you have one handy. Depending on the level of grime in your shower, you may want to grab a little baking soda and/or vinegar. Ready to get started? Take everything out of your shower and set it aside.

Spray Away

Thoroughly spray your shower walls with cleaner and let it really soak into your shower for five to 10 minutes. This gives the cleaner time to go to work for you, making it easier to remove soap scum. Leave the shower floor for later to make cleaning easier. Have glass shower doors? You may want to fill a spray bottle with vinegar and allow that to soak on the doors prior to scrubbing.

Start Scrubbing

Start scrubbing the far left wall of the shower, working your way from top to bottom and left to right. You can add some extra cleaning power by applying a small amount of baking soda to your sponge. Squeeze your sponge several times to allow the baking soda to fully soak into the sponge, then get back to scrubbing.

Once you’re done, repeat the spray and scrub process on your shower floor or tub.

Rinse Clean

Turn on the hot water and rinse your shower doors, floors, and walls clean. Once you’ve rinsed your shower, use microfiber towels, or your squeegee to make sure your shower is completely dry.

Prevent soap scum buildup by spraying your shower with vinegar, then completely dry it after each use. It may seem like a chore, but it takes less than a minute and makes future cleaning much easier.
